GST Calculator, add or remove tax in one tap.

Work out Goods & Services Tax on any amount — add it to a net price or strip it from a gross one — with country presets for India, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, plus the CGST / SGST split for India.

How it worksReal-time

Intra-state GST splits 50/50 into CGST + SGST.

₹1,180.00

₹1,000.00 + ₹180.00 GST

Tax breakdown

Net amount (excl. GST)₹1,000.00
Total GST (18%)₹180.00
CGST (9%)₹90.00
SGST (9%)₹90.00
Gross amount (incl. GST)₹1,180.00

For an intra-state supply, GST is shared equally between the central (CGST) and state (SGST) governments.

Field guide

What GST is and how to calculate it.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value-added tax charged on most goods and services in countries including India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Singapore. The seller adds GST at the point of sale and passes it to the government, so the tax is built into the price the customer pays. This calculator handles the two things you actually need: adding GST to a pre-tax price, and removing it from a tax-inclusive one.

How to add GST

When you have a net (pre-tax) amount and want the final price, multiply by the rate and add it on:

GST = Net × (Rate ÷ 100)
Gross = Net + GST

Example: a ₹1,000 item at 18% GST has ₹180 of tax, for a gross price of ₹1,180.

How to remove GST

When you only know the gross (tax-inclusive) price, you can't just take 18% off — the tax was charged on the smaller net figure. Instead you divide it back out:

Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)
GST = Gross − Net

Example: a ₹1,180 gross price at 18% is ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 net, confirming ₹180 of GST. This “reverse GST” calculation is the one people get wrong most often by subtracting the rate directly.

India: CGST and SGST

India runs a dual GST. For a supply made within a state (intra-state), the total GST is split into two equal components:

  • CGST — Central GST, collected by the central government.
  • SGST — State GST, collected by the state government.

Each takes half the rate, so 18% GST appears on the invoice as 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For supplies between states (inter-state), a single IGST at the full rate is charged instead and later apportioned. India's main slabs are 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with essentials taxed lower and luxury or “sin” goods at the top.

Canada: GST, HST, and PST

Canada layers federal and provincial tax:

  • GST — a flat 5% federal tax that applies everywhere.
  • HST — in participating provinces the federal and provincial portions are combined into one Harmonized Sales Tax (e.g. 13% in Ontario, 15% in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, and PEI).
  • PST / QST — other provinces charge a separate provincial tax on top of the 5% GST (e.g. British Columbia's 7% PST for 12% total, or Quebec's QST for about 14.975%).

Australia & New Zealand

Both keep it simple with a single broad rate: Australia charges 10% GST on most goods and services, and New Zealand 15%. A handful of items (such as basic foods or financial services) may be exempt or zero-rated under local rules.
